Yes. The game is 100% free to play, forever. The site is supported by unobtrusive advertising (Google AdSense) on a small number of pages. There are no paywalls, no in-app purchases, and no premium tiers.

Every day at midnight UTC, a new word is selected using a deterministic date-seeded algorithm. That means everyone in the world gets the same word for that day. You can only complete the daily puzzle once per day per device.

Daily gives everyone the same word each day, so you can compare results with friends. Unlimited mode picks a fresh random word every time you start a new round, so you can practice as much as you want without waiting for the next daily puzzle.

Green means the letter is correct and in the right position. Yellow means the letter is in the word but in a different position. Gray means the letter is not in the word at all. Use these clues to narrow down your next guess.

Yes. If the secret word has only one 'E' and you guess a word with two 'E's, only one of your 'E's can be marked green or yellow. The other will be gray, even though there is an 'E' in the secret word.

Yes — for the daily puzzle we save your attempts to a small cookie on your own device. For unlimited mode, the current round's progress is stored in a cookie that expires after two hours. There is no server-side account.

Your in-progress game will be lost, and a new puzzle will start fresh. There is no way to recover it because we do not store your game data on a server. (This is also why we cannot help you recover a lost daily streak.)

To help you remember which letters you have already discovered are absent, present, or correct. The on-screen keyboard uses the same color coding as the tiles. You can also type on a physical keyboard.

We only accept real English words as guesses. This keeps the game fair and prevents people from just typing random letter combinations to brute-force the answer. The dictionary contains around a thousand common five-letter English words.

No personal data is collected. We do not ask for your name, email, or any identifier. The only data we store about you is the small game-state cookie described in our Privacy Policy. We do not run our own analytics and we do not sell anything.

Not yet. The site is a web app that needs an internet connection to validate guesses. There is no native iOS or Android app. If you would like one, let us know through the contact page.

The site does not currently have a built-in share button, but you can copy the colored squares from your completed game and paste them anywhere — Discord, WhatsApp, X, etc.
